Based on reading the experiences of this blogger with ordering dirt cheap glasses online, I've been browsing.... wanting a new pair of outrageous glasses to mix things up a little.

I'm thinking I might get these ones:I mean, for $16 +shipping.... that's a small price to pay for potentially AWESOME eyewear. Blue and grey argyle glasses? I certainly wouldn't pay the usually $300 for them... it's too much of a fashion risk for that kind of investment, but I'll give it a go for $16! I'll probably grab a pair of $8 glasses too, just for the novelty of being able to tell people I only paid $8 for my glasses. Maybe these in red:

Swap-o-rama-rama was last weekend. It wasn't as busy as normal because it was the same day as the Vancouver Sun Run, a little event in town where 50,000 people run/walk 10km. !!! But it was still good times and I got a few awesome new additions to my wardrobe!

Super cute shirt, perfect for work. Black and serious, but with lots of sweet details. Label is atmsosphere, which is a label I have a cute little jacket by that I LOVE... I have no idea where one can shop this label in Canada, as far as I know it's a British brand?

And - I'm head over heels in love with my new belt. How cool is this? LOVE IT.

I also got a few more shirts that I love, a cute cotton dress, and some shades. Had a great time at the swap as always, it's hard work, but super fun. Hope everyone who came out found some fabulous new stuff!

One of the things I miss about living in the US is being able to order stuff online (the other thing is cheap cheese).   Holy cow you can get anything online in the US and it will be at your door fast.   In Canada there is a dearth of online shopping options (though it has improved in the past few years).   One of the reasons there are so few places doing online shopping in Canada, I suspect, is because Canada Post is whack with their pricing.   I realized this when I would go to mail parcels home to Nova Scotia and Canada Post would ask me for my arm and leg in exchange.

In setting up the online etsy shop for my craft group, I really got to know Canada Post's rates and they really are very silly in some ways.   I allow them a bit of excuse to have high rates - they have to (by law) deliver stuff to some ridiculously remote places in our enormous country, let's give them some credit for how hard and expensive that must be.

But, there's no excuse for having a pricing structure like this:

    for a parcel that weighs 1 - 499grams = price A,
for a parcel that weighs 500 - 999 grams, price B, where price B is at least double price A.
So, if my parcel is 501grams, I pay double what it would cost if my parcel was 499 grams.

That, my friends, enrages people and is nonsensical.   It also kills online shopping because it's insanely hard to predict your shipping costs in advance.  Put a little too much packing tape on your package and you might go over that magic weight threshold and double your shipping price by accident.    Also, if your package fits through the magical 2cm thick slot, you're golden - you can ship something for a reasonable cost.  If it's, say, 2.1cm thick, your shipping price will (approximately) TRIPLE.

But all that is not what I'm here to rant about today.   I'm hear to rant about the fact that because online shopping in Canada blows (thanks mostly to Canada Post, I believe), I have to order stuff from the US frequently.  Most US online places are nice and ship to us Canadian folks - thank you!  (Often their shipping charges are less than a Canadian company's.)  But, sometimes things get caught up at the border.   Like some beads I ordered.   A MONTH AGO.

I can barely bring myself to think of it, I can feel my blood pressure rising....  what are they doing to my beads that is taking so bloody long??   Are they examining each one individually?  Because, the package is coming from Washington state and I could have WALKED there and back by now*.   It makes me absolutely mental.   A month is how long you would wait if you were a lady in 1850 waiting for a letter from overseas, not someone in 2009 waiting for something from less than 200miles away!   (That's like... a 4 hour drive on a bad day.)

I've got online orders for rings that I need these beads for, so I placed a second order with another company.... I've been waiting a week for that package.

My head may explode if there aren't beads in my mailbox when I get home today.

*It's possible the package is lost, but based on my past experience, it'll show up here or back at the vendor..... one day.

Life went and got kind of crazy again! I've got a craft fair on May 3, so that's eating up all my spare time. Not much to blog about anyway - except perhaps the fact that sun has returned to Vancouver! yay!

Peter and I went out with some friends from dance studio last night. It's an interesting dilemma, trying to find places outside of studio to dance.... there aren't a lot of places that are suited to partner dancing. In fact, I think there are only two and both are Italian restaurants. I find that weird - the last thing I want to do before dancing is eat a big Italian meal. For anyone who is looking, we've tried Laguna Blu in New West and Baci in Burnaby. Both are okay. The dance floor at Laguna Blu is a bit bigger but the whole joint has a very banquet feel to it (both the seating and food). Baci feels more like a proper Italian restaurant but half the music they played wasn't danceable (by us anyway).

I wish there was a place that was more club, less restaurant, something with a big dance floor. Alas, the number of people who do partner dancing is so small, no clubs cater to us. Bummer.

On the up side, someone was taking pictures, so we might get the first photographic evidence of our dancing.... also - we made an older gentleman very happy last night, he came over and chatted with us about how happy he was to see young people dancing (ballroom dancing, that is). =)

One of my favorite events of the year is coming up next weekend (April 19) - Swap o Rama Rama!! I love this event!! I've volunteered the past 2 years and will do so again this year.... that's how much I believe in the awesomeness of this event - I want to help make it happen! The organizing torch has been passed this year to the organizer of Got Craft (best craft fair in town) in partnership with the Vancouver Craft Mafia, so I think it's going to hit a new level of awesome. (Can I set a new record for the use of the word awesome in one blog post do you think?)

The gist of the event is that you bring all your unwanted clothes - do a good spring cleaning of the closet and get rid of those things that don't fit, that you don't like, that you never wear, etc - you hand them over at the door (with an admission fee to pay for venue rental n stuff), go into the swap area, grab as much stuff as you want from the heaping piles of clothes.... then you can go to one of the craft stations and work some crafty magic on your new find. Screenprinting, sewing, stencilling, embellishments, whatever you fancy. Crafty people are on hand to assist. At the end of the day all the left over clothing goes to charity. I love it. I get rid of clothes taking up space in my wardobe (I do not have space to spare), and I get to bring home fun new stuff which saves me from having to go shopping - yay! And because all the clothes are free, I can grab some funky stuff that I probably wouldn't buy but want to try.

It's really seriously awesome. I highly recommend clothing swaps - even if there isn't a big swap-o-rama-rama event in your area, you can organize a little clothing swap amongst your friends (helps if you're all generally the same size). I did this once with some friends here and I still have a skirt and top from it that I love.... and my friends were happy to see their neglected clothing being loved by someone. It's funny how fun it is to give away your clothes to someone who LOVES it. =) Something that was buried in a drawer and never saw the light of day becomes a featured part of someone else's wardrobe - that's awesome. A cheap and fun way to renew your wardrobe.

Speaking of awesome new clothes - here's my latest accessory of choice.... a beautiful lightweight scarf Jodie picked up on her travels for me... this scarf has come the long way round the globe just for me. I love it!

For my birthday Peter got me tickets to see one of my favorite musicians - Serena Ryder. The show was FANTASTIC.
