I'm not normally one to do post-christmas shopping (except for getting christmas cards/decor for next year), but I was in dire need of that basic clothing item that is a horror to shop for (bras) and I thought, might as well get something on sale. So today I ventured out, figuring the crowds would be done with shopping. It was nice and quiet and I think I got lucky with the bras - tried on 4 and 3 fit, 2 of which were more than half off. I can never tell with bras how good the fit is until I wear them around for a day- they seem to fit in the shop and then after wearing it for a day it goes in the drawer never to be seen again. We'll see how these ones go - I got lucky last time and am hoping for a repeat.

Have I mentioned that I hate bra shopping?

To celebrate the success in the bra category, I decided to see if I could get a postchristmas miracle in the shoe department. I'm on year 12 of my quest to find stylish, comfortable everyday work shoes. I ended up in Sears - where they have a new outlet/clearance floor (6th floor) where I think everything is 50% off the last ticketed price (and most things have been reduced several times already). I found 2 pairs of cute shoes (probably not everyday shoes, but maybe) for $31 (total, for both). This makes me very happy. Especially since one pair is shiny silver.

Merry postchristmas to all and to all a good afternoon!

Since the Polish people do everything on Christmas Eve, Peter and I will be out in the suburbs tomorrow stuffing ourselves with food and singing Polish Christmas carols! Then Peter and I get Christmas morn in our own apartment, followed by a Canadian Christmas dinner (at the insistence of the Polish people) at our place.

See you on the other side!

Who just got a sassy asymmetrical hair cut?

    Me!

    Model pose!

Dudes, I've been suffering with a boring haircut for several months now. In my 5 (6?) years in Vancouver I have gone to one salon and have gotten awesome haircuts every time except the last time. Even then it wasn't bad, just kind of meh.... and I had grown used to awesome. No worries, this story has a happy ending, they came through again this time - I love this cut. Felt good to loose all those inches of hair, I feel light and free and stylish.

I love my salon. You should all come to Vancouver and go to the Aveda Academy salon on Robson St. I've had instructors, students, regular hairdressers, everything and they're all fantastic.

I have really really thick hair. Like, really thick. And most hair stylists had no idea what to do with it so they cut it the way they cut everyone's hair and so all my haircuts sucked until I discovered the Aveda Academy. I went there specifically because I wanted to have a hair cut by someone who had been trained in some kind of advanced technique. And I was right. These people know how to work with hair. I love them. They have saved me from poofy bob cuts and all the other hair horrors I went through. I love you Aveda, I just wish your hair care products weren't so expensive!

I was pretty zonked after the craft fair (Got Craft) on Sunday. It was a great fair, as always. Still waiting to hear what the final attendance count was, but I suspect it was more than last year - it was pretty insane for most of the day - usually it's just insane in the morning and then it calms down in the afternoon. Maked had a good day, and I sold lots of bike cuff so there will be a lot more stylish cyclists on the streets soon. =)

Tonight is the guest party at dance and I've convinced a friend to come with us and so has Peter - should be lots of fun! Everyone should come to dance with us! We went out to a lovely dinner/dance with our studio two weeks ago and I forgot to get my dance shoes from the studio the night before so I ended up dancing in street shoes (heels) which was an adventure. At one point I was dancing with the owner of the studio (swing) and he was spinning me all over the place and I was pretty sure my shoes were going to fly off my feet and I was going to break both ankles. But I did not. I was quite proud.

These random bits of news are brought to you by Lisa, who is quite tired from working 2 jobs and doing a craft fair.

I'm trying not to freak out about the fact that it is December and I'm really busy with work and contract work and special dance things and I don't know when I'll have free time to do all the things I love most about the holidays.... like make things for people, send cards, make cookies, watch dopey movies, etc. I'm trying to have faith that the busy period will pass and there will still be time left over to relax and do all those wonderful things, but somehow part of my brain refuses to buy that - it wants to relax NOW.

Hope everyone else is easing into the holiday season with less stress!

This Sunday Dec 6 is when the holiday season really gets going for me.

I'm selling crafty things with my group, Maked, at the best craft fair of the year - Got Craft? "Holiday Edition"! I love this fair - the vendors are always fabulous, creative people, it's a nice, busy show, lots of my friends shop there and stop to chat, there are good tunes in the background. It's just a ridiculously happy experience. And this year there is a drawing for a Yudu screenprinting kit and an industrial button maker.... which is awesome.

Vancouver’s largest indie craft fair Got Craft "Holiday Edition"
    Sunday, December 6th, 2009
at the Royal Grandview Legion – 2205 Commercial Drive (at E. 6th Avenue)
between 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission: $2.00 (kids are free)

Featuring over 50 local vendors, Got Craft? has something handmade for everyone on your list from clothing to jewelry to art to ceramics and home décor. Psssst! The first 30 people through the door will receive a free, re-useable swag bag packed full of goodies from all of our vendors. (You have to show up early to snag one of these puppies.)

They will also be giving away a personal screen printing machine valued at $400 Cdn courtesy of Yudu and a DIY button kit including a machine and 250 parts courtesy of Six Cent Press.
