Being a grown up is quite exhausting sometimes. There's just so much life-maintenance-stuff to be done - cooking, cleaning, insurance, investments, bills, work, etc.

Our latest grown up thing is looking into getting a new mattress. I've never bought a new mattress before - I went from home to a dorm bed to a student apartment with a mattress a friend's family donated (thanks Joel's family!), to a futon bed of Peter's to a mattress we bought off a coworker a few months after he bought it.... and that's the mattress we have now. We actually moved it from WI because it was cheaper to do that than get a new one.

Anyway, now it's a bit saggy in the middle and I'm just kind of skeeved out by the thought of 7 years worth of dust mites. I'd like to get a new mattress and put a protective cover on it so I can sleep soundly. It's mostly a mental thing. But mattress shopping sucks - the markup on mattresses is insane, you can't do any research because every place gives the mattress a different name, it's almost enough to make me suck it up and live with our mattress. We're in limbo right now, undecided on a course of action. Feel free to advise.

Memory foam...best investment we EVER made! We've had it over 8yrs and every night I go to bed I think it was the best decision...really! I know that now there are eco options...they had some at the Green Living Show in Toronto.

The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. I'll never cheap out on a mattress again! Make sure you buy from a place with a sleep guarantee…that way if the mattress isn’t right for you it can be exchanged. The last one we bought we wanted a lot firmer. However, we went too firm and Sarah’s back was sore the very first night we slept on it…so back it went and the replacement we chose was perfect!

A good mattress should last you 10 years…and the allergen/might cover is great, we have one as well.

I've bought 3 beds from Sleep Country in the last 6.5 years and love them. I always joke to the sales guy "how many beds do I have to buy to get one free", and they always end up giving me free pillows (umm, whopdedo, but hey, free)

So ya, I like Sleep Country. We've had our king the full 6.5 years and it's still in awesome shape. And the new ones we bought for the kids are all non-flip mattresses which rock.

I am in the memory foam camp, can not sleep on a regular mattress. Get at least the 3 inch, then get a good deep pocket mattress cover. You can come here to test it out ;)
