This is not a visa! This is an invitation from Peter's uncle (in Poland) that will allow me to apply for a visa! Look how fancy and formal it is! I especially like the back side which says he will be responsible for me in every way while in Poland, including paying "for my removal" if necessary. ;)
Next step is an appointment at the Polish Consulate to apply for my visa! Such a relief to be able to make progress on this front.
We have some promising candidates to sublet our apartment (and a queue of interested people if those people fall through). Although I had assumed that Peter's family would be willing to help us out and welcome one of our cats into their enormous house for a year, that is not the case. Fortunately, a very kind soul has offered to take care of one or both of our cats while we are away - I can't thank her enough. Funny how things end up some times - people you expect to step up don't, and people you hardly know become heros.
The funny news at work - both my boss and the director of our group are also going on sabbaticals (one this year, one next year)! It's the latest new thing - you should all go too! Must have been really funny to them when I asked for my year off, since they were both thinking the same thing (they're going for shorter, but still)!

I have found that to be SO true about people. Until you're in a bind, you sort of don't know who you can rely on. It's a strange thing... so glad things are coming together though! yay!
